Umut Ertan in the current issue of the German magazine “Verkehrsrundschau” from June 19th “Storage space remains in demand”
Read which sectors Ertan says will rethink their supply chain concepts and how home office is likely to impact future demand and use of real estate due to the corona pandemic.
“I think it is long overdue that the economy, after having considered globalization as a panacea for decades, is once again relocating,” said Umut Ertan, founder and partner of the Realogis-RLI group of companies. “Sectors such as the pharmaceutical and automotive industries will definitely rethink the organization of their supply chains,” says Ertan.
According to Ertan, the shift to more home offices during and after the corona pandemic will also have an impact on future demand and use of real estate: “Tens of thousands of square meters of space, which would then be free in prime locations, could very well be used in micro-hubs for the last-mile, ”says Ertan. The principle of supply and demand also applies to new buildings: “Instead of chic office towers that were recently empty, logistics is the type of use that will continue to grow strongly,” says Ertan.
